(WBRE/WYOU-TV) This bitter cold can be tough on all of us but it’s downright dangerous for those who have nowhere to go.
With temperatures hovering around the single digits this morning, “Keystone Mission” in Scranton is doing their best to provide a hot drink and a warm meal to people on the streets. We stopped by the
day room of the West Olive Street location.
They tell Eyewitness News that people would be surprised to learn the number of homeless in the greater Scranton area.
“We want to get as many people off the street into a warm place. And if they are out there we want them to come here and enjoy themselves in a safe, secure, location”. Doug Hamilton, Keystone Mission Operations Director.
The day room is open Monday through Friday from 8 until 4:30. Keystone Mission says their long-range goal is to have an overnight shelter in the Scranton area.
